How to Edit DNS Records Print

  • 0

If your domain uses Webfort's nameservers, you can manage its DNS records directly from the control panel. Common reasons to add or edit records include verifying a third-party service, pointing a subdomain elsewhere, or configuring email.

If you're new to DNS, see Understanding DNS Records (A, CNAME, MX, TXT) for an explanation of what each record type does.

Opening the DNS Editor

  1. Log in to the Webfort control panel and go to Domains.
  2. Select the domain you want to edit.
  3. Click DNS in the top navigation.

Adding a Record

  1. Click Add Record.
  2. Choose the record type (A, CNAME, MX, TXT, etc.).
  3. Enter the name — use @ for the root domain or a subdomain like blog.
  4. Enter the value — for an A record this is an IP address; for a CNAME it's another hostname; for a TXT it's the verification string you've been given.
  5. Set the TTL (default 3600 is fine for most cases).
  6. Click Save.

Editing or Deleting a Record

Click any existing record to edit its value or TTL, or use the three-dot menu to delete it.

How Long Do Changes Take?

DNS changes are usually live within a few minutes, but can take up to the record's TTL to propagate worldwide. Clear your browser and local DNS cache if you're not seeing the change — see How to Clear Your Browser Cache and DNS Cache.

Common Uses

  • Verify a service: add a TXT record with the value they've provided.
  • Point a subdomain elsewhere: add a CNAME record pointing to their hostname.
  • Use an external mail provider: replace the default MX records with the ones from your provider.
